Patrick graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 1992. He received a B.A. in Psychology. He attended law school at Wake Forest University and received his J.D. in 1998. He returned to Wilmington after law school and has practiced law in the area since that time. Patrick began his career focusing primarily on defending clients charged with felonies, misdemeanors, traffic offenses and DWI in North Carolina State Courts. He now focuses primarily on civil litigation with an emphasis on representing clients who have been injured at work or in accidents, including automobile accidents. Patrick has tried cases before judges and juries in North Carolina State Courts.

Robert is a 1996 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He received a B.A. in Psychology. After graduation from UNC, Mr. Epstein worked in state government and political consulting before returning to UNC Chapel Hill for law school. He received his J.D. from UNC in 2000. Upon completion of law school, Robert was appointed Assistant District Attorney for Brunswick, Bladen, and Columbus counties, where his work focused on DWI prosecution. While serving as Assistant District Attorney, Robert represented the State of North Carolina in literally hundreds of trials before judges and juries. In 2003, Robert chose to enter private practice so he could put his experience to work defending clients charged with felonies, misdemeanors, traffic offenses and DWI in North Carolina State Courts. Robert also received his certification in Superior Court Mediations and District Court Arbitrations and is currently performing both roles in addition to his criminal defense practice.

Sean graduated cum laude from Arizona State University in 2001. He received a B.S. in Criminal Justice, a minor in Sociology, and graduated from Arizona State’s Barrett Honors College. Sean attended law school at the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University and received his J.D. in 2004. Sean joined Mulligan Epstein Attorneys in November of 2006, and concentrates in Criminal, Traffic, and DWI defense in State Courts. In 2007, Sean successfully completed the NHTSA/IACP Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Course, which is the same certification that law enforcement officers are required to complete for DWI field testing and qualification to provide expert testimony on impairment level of the accused in DWI cases. Sean has also appeared in hearings before the Social Security Administration and has successfully helped clients to recover Social Security Disability Benefits. Sean currently handles Social Security Disability matters for the firm as well.



Elisa Jernigan

A local Wilmingtonian, Attorney Elisa Jernigan graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington where she received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a concentration in Accounting, in 2003. While studying as a full time student, Elisa competed as a strong member of the UNCW Track & Field team throughout her entire undergraduate career. After graduation, Elisa took her studies onto law school where she studied at Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law and received her Juris Doctor in 2010.

After becoming licensed in 2011, she was admitted to practice in North Carolina State Courts. Elisa joined Mulligan Epstein Attorneys in 2011 where she focuses on Traffic, Criminal, DWI defense and Personal Injury cases. She practices in New Hanover and Onslow County, where she is also a member of the local bar associations in addition to the North Carolina Bar Association and the American Bar Association.



M. Alexander Kintner

M. Alexander Kintner grew up in Winston Salem, NC. Alex attended the College of Charleston where he earned a B.A. in Political Science as well as a B.A. in Philosophy upon graduation in 2008. In 2011, after completing his studies at Quinnipiac University School of Law, Alex received a J.D.

In addition to securing a J.D. during law school, Alex earned two concentration certificates,Criminal Law and Advocacy & Civil Advocacy and Dispute Resolution, with honors. During law school Alex clerked for the Honorable Anderson Cromer, Stokes County elected Superior Court Judge. He is a member of the New Hanover County Bar Association and The North Carolina Bar Association. Alex focuses primarily on defending clients charged with criminal offenses and traffic violations in New Hanover and Brunswick County.


A native of Big Stone Gap, Virginia, Attorney Summer Nettleman graduated cum laude from Elon University with a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications and Religious Studies and a Minor in Classical Studies. She then graduated from Elon University School of Law. While attending Elon Law, Summer was a clinical student and IOLTA intern with Legal Aid of NC working in the areas of Housing, Custody, and Domestic Violence. She also interned with the Guilford County Public Defender in Juvenile court.

She is an active member of several local organizations that focus on the needs of children, including the Junior League of Wilmington and the Optimist Club of the Port City, where she is a Charter Member. She is also an alumna of Theta Alpha Kappa, Lambda Pi Eta, Sigma Alpha Omega, and the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. She was admitted to practice in NC state courts in 2009 and is a member of the New Hanover County Bar Association and The North Carolina Bar Association. Summer’s practice is focused on the area of Family Law.
